Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.
Psalms 37:4 AMP

A few months ago, guest minister Terri Savelle Foy preached the message, Ask Big, at Living Word. The message emphasized the Scripture that says, Ask and it will be given to you! She reminded us that we can take the limits off God, release our faith, and ask big. As we do, new blessings and breakthroughs will come our way!

I want to share a testimony about this! My 21-year-old daughter had spent more than a year training for her second Ironman race. Her goal was to earn a spot for the world championship in Kona, HI. When race day came, it appeared that there were a lot more competing in her age group, which was unlike the first time she had competed in the Ironman. The girls competing in 18–24 had not only tripled, but they were very competitive.

During the race, she was 15 out of 19 in her age group, 189 out of 265 women, and 929 overall with men and women combined. The outcome was not looking good for her to get a spot for the world championship. We changed our focus to her finishing the 140.6 mile race (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26 mile run) to be completed in 17 hours or less. We wanted her to finish strong and healthy.

She did finish strong and healthy! She finished in 15:13:09! She beat her previous time by 41 minutes and 27 seconds. We were happy.

The next day, there was a finishers’ breakfast. They announced each person who earned a spot at the world championship. The rules were that the people who wanted their spot had to be present at the breakfast. Each person had the option to pass and then it went to the next fastest time. We waited through 1,100 men to be placed in 110 spots to go on to France. We waited through all the women’s groups until they finally announced the 18–24 women age group was last. Only 10% of the women go to the world championship in Kona, HI. Her age group had earned two spots. Number one in her age group was not present. Number two accepted. They started going down the line and the announcer got tired of no one being present. He asked for anyone in that age group (18–24) to come to the front and check their times. My daughter and another woman went to the front. They announced my daughter’s name to go on to Kona, HI. We cheered and screamed so loud for her. She had been praying, training, and writing down her vision for over a year. When she heard Terri Savelle Foy preach the message Ask Big, it became even more clear what she wanted to accomplish.

When she was paying for the trip before we left the breakfast, she waved me over. She said, “I don’t think I have earned this. I think maybe I should pass and not go.”

I immediately reminded her that she fully earned this. She had not only done the work and put in the effort to finish the race and patiently attend the finishers’ breakfast, but she had also put in the work of prayer!

You see, the Devil will try to twist things for us and tell us we don’t deserve them. He will tell us that we are not good enough or that other people should get this, but not you. We have to be watching for God to make things happen and give us favor, not in our own strength, but in His. I am not sure that anyone who was 15 out of 19 in their age group ever went on to the world championships before, but my daughter had “asked big” and God was on her side.

Ask, and the gift is yours. Seek, and you;ll discover. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. For every persistent one will get what he aks for. Every persistent seeker will discover what he longs for. And everyone who knocks persistently will one day find an open door.
Matthew 7:7-8 TPT

There are thirty-three scriptures in the Bible where God says to ask Him for things.

If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
John 15:7 JUB

Stop asking for things that you think are possible. Ask for something that only God can do!

Terri Savelle Foy gave five ways you can show God that you believe.

  1. Write the vision.
  2. Speak to the dream.
  3. Take action toward the dream.
  4. Sow seed for your dream.
  5. Praise God before the dream manifests.

I encourage you to ask God for something big in your life today!
