“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
Stewardship is the key word for our responsibility in making financial decisions. Stewards are people who manage the affairs of someone else. A steward is one who makes decisions with things that someone else owns; therefore a steward must be one who proves that they are worthy of the owner’s trust.
The Message Bible says: “The requirements for a good guide are reliability and accurate knowledge.”
God owns everything under the sun. He has made us stewards of everything that comes into our hands. God owns it all, but we manage it. In God’s family, God pays for what He orders. A good steward will make decisions that fully encompass the expectation and desire of the Master.
To make decisions to use up God’s wealth without including the tithe and offerings would not prove wise. Faithful servants put the will of their Master before their own wishes. We are always blessed in so doing.
I am a steward of the portion of God’s wealth that comes my way. May I be faithful.
