One time many years ago, I was caught up in the spirit and the Lord showed me something that has had a profound impact on my heart and on my prayers.
He showed me the divine invasion that is coming to the earth.
I’d never seen anything like it. It was an invasion of the power and presence of God the likes of which none of us have ever experienced. The impression of it is still so strong in my soul that I cannot find words to describe it. All I can say is that I saw the might and glory of God storming the earth like a great army. It was awe inspiring.
When I asked God to help me find utterance for what I saw so that I could share it with others, He led me to the book of Habakkuk and highlighted to me these familiar words from the second chapter:
Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (verses 2 – 3)
Although I’d read those verses many times, I’d never given much thought to what Habakkuk had actually seen. I hadn’t considered what it was that he was telling us to wait for with such expectancy. But once I’d seen it myself, I realized that—just as verse 14 says—it was the vision of the glory of the Lord filling the earth like the waters cover the sea.
Stop and think seriously about that vision for a moment. Imagine what would have to happen for God to display His glory in such a way that the knowledge of it reached every man, woman, and child on earth. Think about a move of God so great that no one—not one single person on this planet—would be unaware of it.
That’s what’s coming, and I believe it’s a vision worth waiting for, don’t you?
Scripture Reading: Habakkuk 2:1 – 4
On the chilly March night in 1972 when Lynne Hammond took her first step into a life of Spirit-led prayer, she had no idea what was about to happen. All she knew was the hunger in her heart for God wouldn’t let her sleep. In the few short months she’d been born again, her desire to fellowship with Him had grown so strong she could hardly contain it. “Help me, God!” she cried. “I want to know you. I want to be able to talk to you. Please, teach me to pray!”
Suddenly, a heavenly presence flooded the room. Lynne sensed waves of spiritual fire sweeping over her and a beautiful language began to flow like a river from within her. Although she’d never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, she knew instantly, without a doubt—this was God!
What began that night soon blossomed into a life of prayer that ultimately became a ministry of prayer when, in 1980, Lynne and her husband, Mac, founded Living Word Christian Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under Lynne’s leadership, the prayer ministry at Living Word has become an internationally recognized model for developing effective pray-ers in the local church.
A teacher and an author, Lynne publishes a newsletter called Prayer Notes, has written numerous books, and currently serves as the national prayer director for Daughters for Zion. Her passion for inspiring and leading others into the life of Spirit-led prayer continues to take her around the world to minister to believers whose heart cry, like hers, is “Lord, teach me to pray!”
