“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin.”
Since Christ suffered on our behalf in the flesh, we must also arm ourselves with the same mind or attitude, because if we experience suffering in the flesh it means we have begun the process of ceasing to sin every time we turn around. If we aren’t willing to think like Jesus, we will always demand that God change everything for our ease, and that certainly wasn’t what Jesus did.
The Message Bible says: “Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through, and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way.”
Peter tells us to arm ourselves with the same mind as Jesus so that we can also cease from sin. Jesus Christ suffered while here on this earth. Now we must be ready to endure as he did. We too will suffer similar agonies of the flesh life when we think like and then live like Jesus.
I arm myself with the same mind that Jesus has. It’s never all about me.
