I just accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. What a feeling of freedom I have experienced. How can I know the right church to attend?
Congratulations on your new birth! You’ll continue to discover that God is a good God who wants to help you with every area of your life. Most communities have many excellent churches from which to choose.
I’d suggest that you do two things. First you need to pray and ask God where He wants you to attend church. Here are two excellent Scriptures to support this advice.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
(Matt. 7:7-8)If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
(James 1:5)
Both of these Scriptures explain that God will answer your questions. You need to ask God to reveal where He wants you to go to church. According to these Scriptures, He will!
The next step is to visit different churches. As you attend the churches, you’ll give God an opportunity to show you His will. He may do this by speaking to your heart.
Another way that He may show you is by giving you peace (or a lack of peace) as you attend a particular church. If God says “stay,” or you have great peace, then continue to attend.
You’ll eventually want to become actively involved so that you don’t become complacent or stagnant in your spiritual growth.
