Jeremiah declared God’s undeniable ability to protect us when he said: “Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17 NASU)
Who could possibly dispute God’s ability to guard and keep safe what He has created? Notice what the Lord says about His ability from verse 27, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (NASU). By His great power He brought Israel out of Egypt, not only unharmed but loaded down with rewards. Nothing is too difficult for Him!
Jesus made this promise to believers, “…and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19 KJV). No matter what danger lurks in this world, when we trust God’s promise to keep us, nothing shall hurt us! Recession can’t hurt us. Insulting words can’t hurt us. Demon forces can’t hurt us. Sickness and disease can’t hurt us. Terrorists can’t hurt us! Chemical warfare can’t hurt us! Nothing, absolutely nothing, can harm us.
When we turn the concerns of our lives over to God, He is well able to guard what we entrust to Him! Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all you heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (NKJV).
The Apostle Paul lived his life by that kind of trust. Paul found that not only was God willing but He was also able to guard everything we commit to Him: “For I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day” (2 Timothy 1:12 NAS).
“I know whom I have believed.” What confidence! What boldness! What amazing assurance Paul demonstrates with his statement! This is not merely a lofty statement. It’s a narrative of Paul’s personal experience.
Paul expressed trust and confidence in God that the world simply does not have. But we who, like Paul, have a personal and enduring relationship with the Lord are well acquainted with His goodness, His love, His power, His mercy and His faithfulness. Because of this relationship, we are confident that as we trust in Him, He will not fail us. We have become convinced that He is not only able, but also entirely willing to care for and protect His own.
Daniel 11:32 says, “But the people who know their God shall be strong and do great things” (TLB). The key to experiencing greater works is found in two words: believe and know God. It is not in knowing how He will protect or deliver us; but rather, in believing and knowing that He will that is important.
Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NAS).
