Discouragement and Detours

by | Enriching Life Daily

Our inner desires are seeds — the seeds of God’s dreams that drive our faith.

Every dream has a beginning and an end. The beginning of a dream is when God places His desires and plans in our hearts. Then, that dream becomes a reality as we follow God’s instructions for success.

An uncommon dream that begins with a Word or promise from God will always bring uncommon results. Natural wisdom and common sense, coupled with the power of a promise from God can create supernatural results.

The challenge we all face is that the steps toward success may often seem unexciting, natural, practical, or common. Many people become disappointed and give up at this point simply because they anticipated the steps to appear more spiritual. Ignoring the natural steps that may seem common or insignificant causes many people to fail to see their dreams fulfilled. How many times have we known someone who stepped out in faith believing God would move for them, only to be disappointed when nothing changed? Maybe we were that person. But it doesn’t have to happen that way again. We can begin to take the natural steps that accompany our dream and finally see our dream fulfilled.

Notice what Song of Solomon 2:15 says, “Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes” (NKJV). The “little foxes” in this verse are apparently insignificant things that will actually stop the anointing of the Holy Spirit from freely moving to bring His Word to pass. These “little foxes” can be anything, something as simple as an annoying co-worker or a malfunctioning piece of machinery. If we will become sensitive to the things that can be “little foxes” in our lives, then they will be unsuccessful in spoiling our dream.

Proverbs 24:3 from The Living Bible brings some of the clearest and most practical instructions on succeeding in our godly pursuits:

Any enterprise is built by wise planning, becomes strong through common sense, and profits wonderfully by keeping abreast of the facts.
(Prov. 24:3)

In these words are answers to how to deal with a multitude of these “little foxes” that come to detour and discourage us. When we implement this way of thinking we will begin to see steady progress toward the fulfillment of our dreams. They give us the common things God says we can do to bring uncommon results.

We can choose to build our lives by wise planning, become strong through common sense, and profit by keeping abreast of the facts. Then we will reach the destination God has planned for us.
