We must begin to see ourselves through the light of God’s grace working in and through us. Notice what Romans 5:2 says, “By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (KJV).
We reach into increasing levels of God’s grace through faith in His Word. It takes vision and faith in God to truly grasp and begin to act on His Word and His commands for our lives. Nonetheless, we must see ourselves in the light of His grace.
We must see beyond the limitations of our experience or education. As vital as these qualities are, they can betray us by restricting our willingness to trust Him when facing unfamiliar situations or tasks. Notice again Zechariah 4:6,7 (KJV):
…This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit,’ saith the Lord of hosts. ‘Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.’
The Lord asked, “Who is that mountain?” The “who” may be well-meaning people or even a person’s own way of thinking. The biggest obstacle for many who are called to do wonderful things in God’s Kingdom is often not the devil but their own sense of inadequacy!
Remember, God is not really looking for the great to do His work; He looks for the willing. When a person with a devoted and willing heart yields to Him, the grace to accomplish His plans will become more and more evident in that person’s life.
After Zerubbabel had received the commission to build, he then received divine direction and the promise of how this temple would be completed.
Now look at Zechariah 4:6-7 from The Living Bible:
“…‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty — you will succeed because of my Spirit, though you are few and weak.’ Therefore no mountain, however high, can stand before Zerubbabel! For it will flatten out before him! And Zerubbabel will finish building this Temple with mighty shouts of thanksgiving for God’s mercy, declaring that all was done by grace alone.”
We must realize that God is committed to our success. He will unleash within us all that is needed to finish the task we face, but it will be done in strict adherence to His plan and His Word.
God says that we can succeed because of His Spirit within us. Regardless of our sense of weakness, He declares, “…Let the weak say, I am strong” (Joel 3:10)!
The mountain that stands before us can become flat, and we can move ahead unhindered by our own weakness or by the attacks of the devil. We will finish the job He has given us, and we will do it declaring that all was done by grace alone!

Vikki and Dennis began as youth pastors in 1973 in Southern California where they received tremendous insight into the work of the local church. In 1976, they moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, to work with Kenneth Copeland Ministries. Vikki worked with KCM for three years before entering full-time ministry with her husband.
