“The Lord will arise…that He may do His work, His awesome work, and bring to pass His act, His unusual act” (Isa. 28:21).

This is a promise aimed right at those of us who are proper, precise, programmed people whose lives are well-planned and carefully ordered. The prophet is not faulting us for our efforts to prepare ourselves to face challenges, to figure solutions, or to work through all the obstacles that confront us in order to see our task completed.

This verse is not an indictment against ambition, aggressive action, or well-developed plans for accomplishing what the faint-hearted would never even dare to attempt.

Rather, this scripture is an encouraging promise from the Lord that we will receive an answer to our prayers – on His terms and according to His timetable. It is an assurance that our heavenly Father is going to meet our needs – as He sees fit and when He sees fit. The answer may seem to be delayed, but when it does arrive it will be awesome and unusual.

Our Father is a God of infinite variety. He has a myriad of ways to respond to our petitions and requests. I did a preliminary lexical research study on this verse and came up with the following assurance: “Your prayer has been heard; the answer is on its way. It is a most unusual answer, and it is coming from the most unexpected source.”

The most exciting part of the answer is the element of surprise! We all love a pleasant surprise – and this verse promises us just that!
