“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
Jesus said that if we abide in Him and His Word abides in us, we can make a request and He will give it to us. Wow, that is some promise, with some conditions. What does it mean to abide? The word “abide” means to stay in a given place, or relationship. We are to continue in, dwell with, and remain in right relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Message Bible says: “But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.”
Jesus didn’t just say we must abide in Him. He also said His Words must abide in, continue in, dwell with, and remain in right relationship with us. Not everyone is included. Only those who know, love and honor His Word will qualify. If the Word is dwelling in us, we will never ask anything that would be contrary to God’s will.
I abide in Jesus and His Word abides in me. I ask and God makes it happen.
