Here Isaiah tells us how he received his messages from the Lord. Evidently, the prophet was just like other normal human beings. He seems to have kept the same laws of health that we do today.
He ate and slept regularly. At morning time, when he was the most rested and refreshed, most sensitive to spiritual response, he would get a "nudge" from the Lord who would say to him: "Wake up, Isaiah, I have many things to tell you."
If you would like this to happen to you, then claim Proverbs 6:22 as a personal promise from the Lord to you: "When you awake, they (the words of God) will speak with you."
After the Lord had awakened Isaiah, He then opened his ears. Jesus often challenged His audiences: "He who has an ear, let him hear." Waking up is the first step. Hearing from the Lord is the next step. This is why a consistent plan of daily devotions is so vital to spiritual health.
As a result of awakening and listening to the Lord, Isaiah had the ability to say the right word to the right person in the right place at the right time. First his eyes were opened from sleep, then his ears were opened to God. Then was his opened to speak sustaining and refreshing words to the languishing, weary followers of the Lord.
Eyes open, ears open, mouth open. That is a good sequence - for us as well as Isaiah!
