For 1,500 years, the Jews celebrated the Passover and they understood what the Passover meant. Jesus was sent here to earth as a sacrificial Lamb and for fifteen hundred years the prophets prophesied. Let’s look at what the prophet Isaiah said in Isaiah 53.
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgressions of My people He was stricken. And they made His grave with the wicked; But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.
(Isa. 53:1-9)
When we are talking about the purity of Jesus in prophecy and the purity of the Lamb, I think it is key to understand that it was prophesied there was no deceit in His mouth. The Word tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Jesus said we will be judged by our words. So the words of the Messiah were very important to the prophet Isaiah and of course very important to God.
As the fifteen hundred years came to a close and Jesus was born here on this earth, another prophet, John the Baptist, prophesied that the Lamb of God was coming. In John 1:29 he said, “Behold the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.” In John 1:35-36 it says, “Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God!'”
