“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”
The epistle of John was written to let us know some things that are necessary so we won’t violate God’s Word by sinning. But when we do sin, Jesus our advocate is our counselor and intercessor. Jesus has God’s full and continual approval so He can effectively plead our case with the Father when we’ve missed it.
The Message Bible says: “I write this, dear children, to guide you out of sin. But if anyone does sin, we have a Priest-Friend in the presence of the Father: Jesus Christ, righteous Jesus.”
An advocate is one who pleads the case for another, speaks in favor of another, and is called to the aid of another. Jesus is our advocate, or our lawyer.
When we sin, He pleads our case before the Father. He reminds Him of the blood shed for the remission of our sins. He reminds the Father we are His kids and worthy of His favor. Thank God we have an Advocate.
I’m in fellowship with Jesus today. I don’t walk in darkness but I walk with Him.
