Keeping the Covenant

by Keith Butler | The Anointed Word

“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love” (John 15:10 KJV).

It doesn’t matter what size your battle is, when you are in covenant with God, it shall fall. However, we must keep the covenant God has with us. In keeping the covenant, we are keeping His commandments. In fact, you could read John 15:10 this way: “If you keep my covenant, ye shall abide in my love.” Keeping God’s covenant is abiding in His love.

Now you need to understand this covenant issue. Why was it that God always came to the defense of the nation of Israel? He told them “I don’t defend you because you are better than someone else, or I love you more than anybody else.”

The reason He came to their defense and protected them time and time again was because God made a covenant with a man by the name of Abraham. And Abraham got into that covenant by being willing to give his best—his son Isaac, because of His love for God (see Genesis 22).

A covenant then is an agreement between two parties. Keeping a covenant depends upon the actions of both parties. We see then that part of that Abrahamic covenant was protection. God would protect Abraham and his seed. Abraham and his seed must live by the terms of that agreement. Anytime they were defeated they had turned to other gods, thereby breaking the covenant.

For you today, that covenant requires that God loves you and you love God. And His commandment is that you walk in love toward others. A step out of love is a step out of the covenant. A step out of love is a step out of protection. A step out of love is a step toward poverty. A step out of love is a step toward sickness.

On the other hand, a step in love is a step toward healing. A step in love is a step toward protection. Step in love is a step toward prosperity. So when the children of Israel came up against huge armies, because they where in covenant they won the battle regardless of the size of the armies. And whenever you keep the covenant with God you then get to have His protection.

With God, the size of the problem doesn’t matter. When you are in covenant with God, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, because His protection brings finances, healing, favor, and long life.
