Need Encouragement?

One way to meditate God’s Word is to speak aloud. It is interesting to note that the Hebrew word in Joshua 1:8 translated meditate is also rendered “to speak” in the following three verses:

For my mouth will speak (or meditates) truth. (Prov. 8:7)

And my tongue shall speak (or meditate) of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long. (Ps. 35:28)

The mouth of the righteous speaks (or meditates) wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice. (Ps. 37:30)

When we are speaking to others about the great God we serve, the wonderful things He has done, and the immense wisdom He possesses, we are actually practicing a form of meditation.

It is a great benefit when we hear how God has moved on behalf of another person. We can witness, right before our eyes, someone who has received from God’s miracle working power. And if God will do it for someone else, He will do it for us. So speak God’s Word to one another. Talk of His faithfulness. Notice how Ephesians 5:19 expresses it:

Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
(Eph. 5:19)

Speaking to one another about the works of God will cause everyone who hears to be encouraged and strengthened. This builds one another up in the Word of God. This type of fellowship is vitally important among believers.

We all need to hear of the wondrous works of God. We need to hear that God is still a miracle-working God. The world needs to hear that God is still in the healing business. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11).

We can never allow shyness or timidity to hold us back. Refuse to be dominated by a spirit of fear. The Psalmist said, “I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your deeds” (Psalm 77:12). Meditation and the words we speak are directly linked. Whatever is in our hearts in abundance will come out our mouths. Talking about God’s deeds is another aspect of meditation.

Worry is also a form of meditation. However, it is not meditating on what God says; it is meditating on what the media says, what people say, or what could happen.

Speaking the Word does not mean that we only speak in chapter and verse. But it does mean that what we speak is uplifting, edifying, and in line with what God has said. When we hear the wisdom of God and truth coming from our own lips, it not only builds up others, but it edifies and strengthens us as well. We will believe what we say before we believe what anyone else says.

Words that spring up from our spirits and spoken out our mouths flood our entire being as we speak them. We are building and recharging ourselves as we speak. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

As we speak the Word of God from our own mouths, we will hear it, believe it, and receive it. So start talking about what God has done in your life! Even the small things God does will minister to others.
