Praying and Forgiving Are Connected

by Tim Davidson | Devotions, Featured Devotions

“Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.”

(Mark 11:25 NASB)

Jesus said that if you have anything against anyone, when you are praying about anything, it will affect your prayers. We are to forgive those people right then and there, as we stand ready to petition God for the needs of our own lives. We must let it drop, let it pass, and let it go, in order that our Father in heaven may be able to forgive us our own faults and deficiencies.

The Message Bible says: “And when you assume the posture of prayer, remember that it’s not all asking. If you have anything against someone, forgive—only then will your heavenly Father be inclined to also wipe your slate clean of sins.”

Can we forgive what we may have against anyone? Jesus says we can. He wouldn’t tell us to forgive if it weren’t possible to do so, nor if it couldn’t be done while praying. Trust impressions of your heart while praying. As you respond to God’s prompting, you clean your slate and God will write His answers on it.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

As I stand praying I choose to forgive everyone that I have anything against. Amen.
