“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”
If you grab your shoelaces while your shoes are on your feet, and pull real hard, can you lift yourself? The answer obviously is no. In the same way, we don’t have the ability or strength to save ourselves from the awful grip of sin. We need a Savior. God’s grace, His divine influence, saves us from sin when we trust Him.
The Message Bible says: “Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish!”
Saving us was God’s idea from the start. God saves us through faith as an act of His love and kindness. We had nothing to do with God’s decision to do it. But this grace comes through faith. If we don’t believe, we get no grace.
Picture it this way. There is a pipeline that starts in heaven and extends all the way down to us. This pipeline is called faith. Anything God has to give us, He puts in on His end of the pipe and it comes through all the way to us.
Without faith, God has no means to distribute His favor. Being saved is a gift from God. It’s grace through faith.
I am saved by the grace of God. It’s mine because I believe on Jesus. It’s a God gift.
