But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
1 John 2:20 KJV

I have said it before and I will say it again: we have come to the end of this age. We have come to the moment in time when Jesus said we must watch. And the only way to watch is in the spirit. Therefore, we must begin releasing our faith more and more in that area. We must expect not only to pray but to live in the spirit.

How dare we expect such a thing?

Because the Word of God says we can do it. It says we have an unction from the Holy One and we know all things. It says the Holy Spirit teaches us all things and shows us things to come (John 15:26, 16:13). It says God reveals things to us by His Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10). It says we can be led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14) and specifically commands us to walk in the spirit (Galatians 5:25).

So it’s time for us to stop waiting around for God to do something more for us. He has already done all He needs to do. Now it’s our turn! It’s time for us to believe what He said and step out on it by faith. How?

We step out by responding to Him.

We need to stop doubting the promptings that come to us and saying to ourselves, “Hmmm, I wonder if that’s God. Probably not.” When we act like that, we’re grieving the Spirit and denying the Word.

We ought to be responding by faith to those promptings instead. We should be saying to ourselves, “That must be God because He promised He would show me things. So I’m going to pray right now about what He is showing me.”

That kind of response opens your spirit wider so you can receive even more leadings from the Lord. It builds your ability to watch in the spirit because watching is done by faith.

Glory to God! It always comes back to faith, doesn’t it? You just can’t please God without it. And remember, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So determine to build your faith for watching in the spirit by reading Devotions for the Praying Heart 353 Last Day’s Watchers and meditating on scriptures like the ones I mentioned above, scriptures that talk to you about your ability to hear from God.

They’ll help you become the last-days’ watcher God has called you to be!

Devotions for the Praying Heart by Lynne Hammond.
Excerpt permission granted by Lynne Hammond Ministries

On the chilly March night in 1972 when Lynne Hammond took her first step into a life of Spirit-led prayer, she had no idea what was about to happen. All she knew was the hunger in her heart for God wouldn’t let her sleep. In the few short months she’d been born again, her desire to fellowship with Him had grown so strong she could hardly contain it. “Help me, God!” she cried. “I want to know you. I want to be able to talk to you. Please, teach me to pray!”

Suddenly, a heavenly presence flooded the room. Lynne sensed waves of spiritual fire sweeping over her and a beautiful language began to flow like a river from within her. Although she’d never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, she knew instantly, without a doubt—this was God!

What began that night soon blossomed into a life of prayer that ultimately became a ministry of prayer when, in 1980, Lynne and her husband, Mac, founded Living Word Christian Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under Lynne’s leadership, the prayer ministry at Living Word has become an internationally recognized model for developing effective pray-ers in the local church.

A teacher and an author, Lynne publishes a newsletter called Prayer Notes, has written numerous books, and currently serves as the national prayer director for Daughters for Zion. Her passion for inspiring and leading others into the life of Spirit-led prayer continues to take her around the world to minister to believers whose heart cry, like hers, is “Lord, teach me to pray!”
