Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. …and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
(Ps. 90:12, 17 NLT)
It is godly to aspire to live a life that counts. Add to your awareness of the brevity of life the knowledge that God desires your success; and that in fact, He is the One who makes your efforts successful. When we calculate these key components into the equation, we will live purposeful lives.
God reinforces His desire for our success in the example of Moses’ prayer: “Make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!”
In biblical times, Scripture was read aloud to the common people. God’s Word would fall on their ears, not their eyes. Hearing a phrase repeated reinforced it to those listening and underscored its significance. The people of Israel could not see an exclamation point, but they could hear the repeated words ringing in their ears:
Make our efforts successful!
God goes to great lengths to let us know we were created for greatness. We know we were designed for greatness because our Father, the Creator God, crafted us in His image (see Genesis 1:27). He designed us to achieve success and live well by carrying out His eternal purposes.
As we approach a new year, keep these principles in the forefront of your mind. Let God teach you His wisdom and His definition of success. What efforts of greatness is God calling you to for 2016 and beyond?
