How Do We Love Others?

Matthew 22:39 (NLT)

A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

The first commandment Jesus gave us is to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. Then He said it is equally important to love others as ourselves. How do we accomplish this when there are so many unlovable, unlikable people in the world? By loving people as Jesus did, with the love of God in us. It is not possible to love all

the people with human love, but it is possible to love every human being with the love of God.

How do we obtain the love of God in our hearts and the ability to love people with His kind of love? By asking Him to put that love in our hearts. “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21:22 NLT). Because it is definitely in the will of God that we love others, He will give us His love to love people.

How do we show godly love for people? The workplace gives us great opportunities to demonstrate it. Some ways are by praying for those in leadership and authority at our companies, by praying for our employees if we are in management, or by praying for co-workers when they have needs. We also show godly love when we don’t gossip about others, when we respect our leaders, help another team on a special project, and show interest in our co-workers’ families.

As you can see, there are many ways to show godly love at work. Ask God for opportunities to show His love through you.

Saving the Lost

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet. 3:9).

We know that saving the lost is God’s will because it was to save the lost that Jesus laid down His life.

Therefore, knowing this, we would not pray, “God, save my mother, if it is Your will. Don’t let her go to hell, if it is Your will. If it’s not Your will, let her go to hell.”

No! We know God’s will in the matter. God’s will is His Word and it makes it clear in such scriptures as John 3:16 and Second Peter 3:9. It is God’s will for men and women to be saved. Therefore, we can pray for the lost with great boldness.

Believers especially can exercise great authority in praying for the salvation of their families. I used some of the scriptures we have been studying as I prayed for my relatives. I said something like this:

“This is the confidence that we have in God, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. What I am asking for is according to God’s will; therefore, He hears me. That is what the Word says. And if we know that He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desire of him. Then according to the Word, I have that petition.”

Then I stopped asking and started thanking God. It’s amazing how it works. I don’t mean that your entire family will necessarily come to the Lord overnight, but as you stand in faith, thanking God, they will come.

Confession: I can pray in faith for the lost, because I know God’s will in the matter!

God’s Will for You is Sweatless Work

“And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” (Gen. 2:15).

Jesus restored to you all that Adam lost. One thing that Adam lost was sweatless work. He indeed had to work. But Adam’s work was sweatless.

Notice God gave Adam the charge to dress “and” keep the garden. That means there were two things God gave that man to do. Notice that God is talking to Adam. Eve is not yet created. There is no woman. This is the male Adam in Chapter two. And before He gives the man a woman, He gives him two jobs. I think the Lord knew something.

He gave the man a job, but there was something about this job. Before sin, God gave the man work, but it was sweatless work. There was no sweat involved in his work. So when this man did the work of dressing and keeping the ground, watching over the garden, it wasn’t taxing to him at all.

That man was operating in the anointing. He’s operating without sin. The Spirit of God is able to move unencumbered where that man is concerned. So the man worked but it was sweatless work.

Well you know what happened in Chapter three. Adam and his wife Eve failed. They fall into sin and they move from God’s original intention of a man who would never be afraid; a man who is prosperous, a man who is healed; a man who is prolific and blessed, a man who can dominate, to being a man who was afraid.

Because of sin they entered into an area of weakness. They entered into an area of fear. They entered into an area of lack. The first thing Adam said was, “I’m afraid.”

This is why Jesus came. He came to restore to you sweatless work. Because you are born again, you can operate in the anointing. You can operate without sin. You are a man or woman in whom the Spirit of God is able to move unencumbered.

Lean on the anointing within you so that your work can be sweatless as God originally intended. When you lean on that anointing, you will have prolific results. You produce. You increase. You have divine favor in all you do and everywhere you go. And you prosperity comes upon you and overtakes you.

What You’ve Lost to the Devil Will Be Restored

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise)” (Eph. 6:1-2).

What is the promise that comes along with honoring your father and mother? It will be with you, and you will live long on the earth. The Amplified translation says it this way: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord as his representatives, for this is just and right. Honor (esteem, and value as precious) your father and mother.”

He didn’t say to honor them if they were right. Nor did it say to honor, esteem, and value your parents if they were perfect. God said, honor, esteem and value as precious your father and your mother. This is the first commandment with a promise.

To honor your parents is to love them. And God’s love is unconditional. The kind of love he expects us to exhibit as his children, as believers, is unconditional love even if we had parents who were terrible.

Why is this? It is for your own preservation. Verse 3 says, “That it may be well with thee, and thou may live long on the earth.” In other words, your prosperity in the earth is tied to how you treat your parents.

When your parents need help, and when they get old, they should not be thrown away like an old shoe in case they get in the way of your life. This is one reason why God expects you not to get into debt. When your parents get old you should be willing to assist them. The Bible said, as a man sows that shall he also reap. You don’t know, if Jesus tarries, that you will be old one day and you may need assistance from your children.

People wonder why they do what the Bible says, and don’t get the blessing. It is because they haven’t accepted all the Bible. They picked up certain portions they wanted to pick up. They liked the money comes part, but not the take care of the parent part. You have to accept all of the Word of God.

If you will live Godly, God will bless your seed and your seed’s seed. It says to honor your parents. Obey your parents. If you are a young person, it doesn’t matter whether or not mama understands. Do what she tells you to do. Do what they tell you to do and honor them, and you will live long and see good days on the earth.

Train Your Spirit

“It (grace) has trained us to reject and renounce all ungodliness (irreligion) and worldly (passionate) desires, to live discreet (temperate, self-controlled), upright, devout (spiritually-whole) lives in this present world” (Titus 2:12).

When an athlete goes into training, he practices to improve his skills. He works hard, repeating the same motions over and over until they become what we’d call “second nature” to him.

Most of us understand how crucial that kind of training is in the physical realm. We know that you simply can’t be a winner without it. But did you know we can train ourselves that same way where spiritual things are concerned?

That’s right! Hebrews 5:14 says we can train our senses to discern between good and evil. When you train, or practice, for something, you expose yourself daily to whatever it is you want to become. You practice it over and over until it becomes second nature to you. People who are lazy have practiced being lazy. People who are disciplined have practiced being disciplined.

Spending time with God is “spirit” practice. As you do it diligently, your spirit will grow stronger and will start to overcome the habits of the flesh.

If, for example, you have trouble getting up in the morning to spend time with God before the busyness of the day begins, if you’ve been giving in to your flesh and staying in bed, then you’ll have to start practicing getting up. The more you practice it, the easier it will be.

Don’t expect yourself to do it perfectly right from the beginning. Don’t get discouraged when you stumble and fail. You’re just out of practice. Get back on your feet and go at it again!

Become a spiritual athlete. Put yourself in training by practicing the things of God. Build your spirit muscles through fellowship with Him. You will be surprised to find just how much of a winner you can be.
