The Father Does The Works

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own initiative, but the Father abiding in me does His works.”

(John 14:10 NASB)

Jesus reveals a great secret concerning ministry in this verse. He says that the words He spoke didn’t come from Him. It was God’s words that flowed out of His human temple of clay. That tells me that the way we minister today will be in the same way.

We give the voice and body to the Word that God’s Spirit wants to express. Jesus then said that the Father produces the results. God then does the works.

The Message Bible says: “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you aren’t mere words. I don’t just make them up on my own. The Father who resides in me crafts each word into a divine act.”

Jesus didn’t minister by His “Son of God” stature here on earth, but by His human stature anointed by the Holy Spirit. Jesus demonstrated to us what a man on earth, free of sin, anointed by the Holy Spirit, could accomplish.

Now through the new birth we qualify for the same works to be done through us as were done through Jesus.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

The Words I speak aren’t my own, my Father gives them and He does the works.
