The Sword Of The Spirit

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

(Eph. 6:17)

The Word of God is our sword of the Spirit. The word “word” here is the Greek word “rhema.” It means the spoken word of God. It isn’t the words in the Bible that are our sword, but the words of the Bible on our lips become the sword of the Spirit. We are to use the Word of God on our lips to resist the devil and send him packing.

The Message Bible says: “Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued…God’s Word is an indispensable weapon.”

Of all the armor the Roman soldier carried, only one was an offensive weapon. It was his sword, and in the hands of a trained soldier it was an awesome weapon. For a sword, we use God’s Word, which is His message that comes to us and through us from the Spirit. The enemy of our soul will run in terror from anyone wielding this sword of the Spirit, trusting God for the victory.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I take the Word of God on my lips; I speak it out and it becomes my sword of the Spirit, which insures my victory.
