What color is Jesus Christ? Are pictures of a Caucasian Jesus lies? If so, what can be done to stop these lies?
There is proof in the Bible that Jesus came from the Jewish race. Remember, His earthly mother was Mary, a Jewish girl. Thus, His flesh was Jewish, while on the inside He was God (John 1:1-14).
Today, because of the great dispersal, we can find Jewish people who are dark-skinned or light-skinned. In biblical days, Jewish people were a darker skinned, Middle Eastern type people. It is very unlikely that Jesus was a light-skinned man. He most probably was dark-skinned.
Remember, we have no evidence remaining concerning the appearance of Jesus. The pictures we see are totally artists’ conceptions. Caucasian artists have drawn a light-skinned Jesus. We won’t know what Jesus looks like until He returns to receive His church. I don’t believe we have to go on a campaign against this error.
The last thing Jesus wants us to do is fight over what color He was. He wants us to come to the place where we don’t pay attention to color, but rather look at the heart of people. God does not make race an issue. He makes an issue of a person’s thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors of the inner man.
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
