What is Sickness?

by Al Johnson | Articles, Healing

The truth reveals to us that God hates sickness because it is the work of Satan.  God wanted that daughter of Abraham healed and he wants you healed and healthy as well.

F.F. Bosworth said: “Faith begins where the will of God is known.” The will of God concerning healing can be further established in the heart of the believer when it is understood how the Lord views sickness and disease.  This understanding begins by first asking an often misunderstood question.  What is sickness?

Webster’s Dictionary defines sickness as ill health and a disordered, weakened or unsound condition.  This certainly describes sickness as we know it and that is a fact, but how do we know if that is a statement of truth?  The standard by which all statements must be measured is the word of God.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
(John 17:17)

If there is any truth to be found, it is in the Bible. To determine the truth of any statement it must be measured against the standard of the word of God because His word is truth. Many statements are made by well meaning individuals but the validity and truth of those statements are revealed in the light of God’s Word.  Some folks might even refer to sickness as God’s way of instruction or even a blessing in disguise, but a quick look at the Word will expose such misunderstandings.

What is sickness?  Let us look to the word of God for the answer.  Jesus, in dealing with a woman who was sick for eighteen years had a very interesting view of her condition.

And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
(Luke 13:16)

Jesus calls sickness the work of Satan. Now statements like these would warrant the left foot of fellowship from many churches today, but the words of Jesus are truth.  If sickness was ever the work of God or a blessing in disguise there would be at least one instance in the ministry of Jesus where sickness would be described as such.  Praise God, it cannot be found. Sickness was satanic oppression then and it still is today.

For there is no respect of persons with God.
(Rom. 2:11)

The truth reveals to us that God hates sickness because it is the work of Satan.  God wanted that daughter of Abraham healed and he wants you healed and healthy as well.  Let’s call sickness what it is and become aggressive in our faith in Jesus, The Healer, to have it removed from our lives.

Al Johnson responded to the call of God in his life in 1994 when he and his wife moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible Training Center. Rhema is a school founded by the late Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin and is designed to prepare its students for full-time ministry. In 1996 Al graduated from Rhema with a concentrated study in Pastoral Ministry and immediately returned to his hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia to help fulfill the call placed on Rev. Hagin: "Go and teach my people faith."

Al has served as an itinerant minister, associate pastor, and is now the founding president of Step of Faith Ministries and pastor of Community of Faith Church in Locust Grove, Virginia (a suburb of Fredericksburg). Al Johnson has a tremendous desire to see the word of God manifested in the lives of people; so many are in need of a touch from God.
