I recently accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. What a peace and change came into my life! Why do people get so upset with me because I love Jesus?
There are two main reasons why people get upset with us when we accept Jesus as our personal Savior and decide to serve Him. First, we begin to have different desires and stop doing wrong things that we once did. The Word of God states:
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles – when we walked in licentiousness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
(1 Peter 4:1-4 NKJ)
The second reason is that the devil begins to inspire people to dislike us and attack us. These people are usually good people who do not realize that the devil is putting thoughts in their heads. Unfortunately, they yield to those thoughts. This is the fiery trial of which the Bible speaks in 1 Peter 4:12-13.
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
