“Jesus said unto him, if thou can believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
Jesus said that all things are possible, but He didn’t say that all things are possible to everyone. He expressed a condition that must be met before all things will be possible for you. You must believe. He said “if” you believe. That puts you right in the driver’s seat. Will you trust God or not?
The Message Bible says: “Jesus said, ‘If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.'”
What does it mean to believe? It goes beyond just having a general faith in God. Believe is a verb. It is an action word. Believing simply means we trust the input of God’s Word and we act on it in our daily circumstances.
Just as we act on the word of a friend to meet us for lunch, we act on God’s Word and all things that He says to us become our absolute reality. If a report came to our ears that a bomb was set to go off in five minutes in the building we are in, we wouldn’t have any trouble distinguishing between who believes it and who doesn’t. Believing is acting.
All things are possible to me when I take God at His Word, trust Him and act on it.
