An Unbeatable Team

by Dick Mills | The Spirit Filled Believer

“And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched”
(1 Sam. 10:26 NKJV).

Here is a word about teamwork. It might be important to you, when planning your future, to consider the type of people with whom you will be working. In the Old Testament, God touched the hearts of valiant men and caused them to be willing to go with King Saul of Israel.

If you are obedient to His call upon your life, the Lord will move other people to want to assist you in accomplishing your God-given task. However, you must also do your part. Your gift will open the right doors for you, but it takes personal integrity and consistent character to continue to elicit support from others.

Our society fosters “Lone Rangers,” superstars, and prima donnas. The Lord calls for teamwork and cooperation. Paul said it tersely in 1 Corinthians 3:6: one plants, another waters, and God gives the increase.

No one is a law unto himself. No one can finish the task alone. We need each other. Someone has said, “You are only as good as the people surrounding you.” With this in mind, determine to:

  1. Be open to the teamwork concept
  2. Expect quality people to want to join team
  3. Reject all concern about who will get the credit for a job well done
  4. Concentrate on doing your best
  5. Work for God’s glory and honor, not yours or someone else’s

Nothing else matters. As the Lord opens doors for you, look for the right people to work with you. Just as He has prepared you, so also He has prepared them. Together you make an unbeatable team – you, your “valiant men” (and women), and the Lord your God!
