Are Old Testament Promises Applicable to Christians Today?

Can a Christian claim Old Testament promises?

There are a few promises that were made to the nation of Israel that we Christians cannot claim. We cannot claim the land that the nation of Israel now occupies. God promised that land to Abraham and his seed, Israel. However, all the individual promises that God made to Old Testament saints can be claimed by the Christian. The following Scripture clearly states this fact:

But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not “Yes” and “No,” but in Him it has always been “Yes.”

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
(2 Cor. 1:18-20 NIV)

As we are born again, we enter into Christ. We become one with Him; all the promises God ever made in the Old and New Testaments become ours (Gal. 3:14, 26-29). I like that the Word of God declares that all the promises God has made are “Yes” for the Christian!

Did you notice how this section of scripture ends? You and I must say “Amen” to the promise. The word Amen means: “so be it or let it be that way in my life.” When you and I see the promises that are made in the Word of God, we need to agree with them, receiving them by faith. God promises to protect, financially bless, and physically heal Old Testament saints. He’ll do the same for us.
