Ask And You Will Receive

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“Until now you have asked for nothing in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.”

(John 16:24 NASB)

At the time Jesus said these words to His disciples, they had never used His name in prayer before. He had taught them to pray under the old covenant, to petition the Father, as in the Lord’s Prayer. Our Father, which art in heaven’…They didn’t pray in Jesus’ name.

But Jesus now tells them that, in this new day, they are authorized to use His name when they pray to the Father. Jesus has granted us the power of attorney to use his name. God the Father hears our prayers as if Jesus Himself had made the request. Wow, that’s enough to make your joy full.

The Message Bible says: “Ask in my name, according to my will, and he’ll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks!”

God loves us so much He wants to say yes to every prayer we pray. He wants our lives to be filled with joy and good things. God has more desire for our welfare than even we do. He proves it daily as He provides for us and answers our prayers in Jesus’ name. So ask and let your joy be made full.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I ask in Jesus’ name and receive the answer so my joyfulness may be made complete.
