When hiring managers, do you check references carefully and completely?
Paul instructed elders to be appointed if they were “…beyond reproach” (Titus 1:6 NASB).
Reference checking is a key to ensuring you hire great managers whose interview claims match up with past accomplishments.
During an interview, ask for the three past successes the candidate accomplished and how they were achieved.
Follow up with the immediate boss of the candidate, identify the claimed successes, and ask how the person performed; in addition, check if the claims were accurate.
If the claims were inflated, don’t make the hire and move on to the next prospect.
