“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.”
Jesus will cut away every component of our life that doesn’t generate fruit. He also trims back every limb that produces fruit, so that it will turn out even more fruit. This is how we glorify God: by bearing God fruit.
The Message Bible says: “He cuts off every branch of me that doesn’t bear grapes. And every branch that is grape bearing he prunes back so it will bear even more.”
Fruitfulness in our Christian walk is not a request of God in our life; it is a requirement. God expects that His presence in our lives will affect the way we live, the way we walk, the way we think and the way we make decisions on a daily basis.
To bring us along in ever-increasing fruitfulness, God prunes us. That means He cleanses us. He cuts back all the dry, dead, fruitless elements of our lifestyle and causes us to have more time and energy for those things that are bearing fruit.
God loves me and makes me fruitful in His kingdom by pruning my life today.
