Resist The Devil

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

(James 4:7)

The Message Bible says: “So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper.”

The end result of this progression is that the devil will flee from you. One translation says he will flee from you as in terror. Why is that? We are no match for the devil’s trickery on our own. That’s why we must first submit ourselves to God. Then, as we resist the devil, it is Jesus, in us, resisting him.

As you yield your life to Jesus, when the devil is actually looking at you, he’ll see Jesus in you. The devil already has dealt with Jesus during His death, burial and resurrection and he wants no part of Jesus again.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Today I submit myself to God, I resist the devil, and he flees from me as in terror.
