Scriptures for Developing Proper Relationships With Your Spouse

by Germaine Copeland | Uncategorized

Frequently we find that even though we are Christians and have a good relationship with the Lord, our home situation is not a warm one. Many times both mates are saved, but just because both are born again does not mean that there is a warm family situation.

If there is anything that Satan likes to do, it is to knock around a Christian home, causing contention and division. Perhaps your home does not have the joy and abundance of life it is supposed to have in Jesus. When the truth comes forth, it brings light into any situation.

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
(Heb. 13:4)

A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.
(Prov. 12:4)

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
(Prov. 31:28,11)

But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.

To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.

But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.

For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.
(1 Cor. 7:2-4,10-11,13-14,39)

However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
(Eph. 5:33)

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
(Eph. 5:22-25)

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
(Col. 3:18-19)

Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,
To be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
(Titus 2:4-5)

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives.

For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands.
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
(1 Peter 3:1,5,7)

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.
(Ps. 128:3)

May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
Proverbs 5:18

Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.
(Prov. 19:14)

Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun – all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun.
(Eccl. 9:9)
