The Comfort Of The Spirit

by | A Verse A Day

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”

(John 14:16)

The Holy Spirit is the one who Jesus was referring to here. He called the Holy Spirit our Comforter. A Comforter is one who is our Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby.

Whenever we face circumstances in life that seem too tough, too overwhelming, we can know that we have a Comforter assigned to our case, working it all out for our benefit and good.

The Message Bible says: “I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.”

The Holy Spirit is our Helper. He has been sent by God to help us in overcoming our situations. Too often we wish someone would come along and take all our troubles away, so we won’t have to deal with them anymore.

Our Helper won’t do it all for us, but He will enable us and take hold together with us to address the need and see the promises of God accomplished in our lives. Thank God for our Comforter.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

The Holy Spirit is my Comforter and my Helper and in Him I do trust.
