“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved).”
Christ died for us while we were still disobedient and sinful and He brought us to life. We were spiritually dead in sin. That didn’t mean that we were physically dead. It means that we are spiritually separated from God. It means we were in a different family. And now it’s by God’s grace that we have been brought to life and saved and have been made part of God’s family.
The Message Bible says: “He embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us!”
When we were dead in our sins our whole life was offensive to God. We could not please or impress Him no matter how hard we tried. But God put an end to the struggle. Jesus took our place and solved the sin problem. God now saves us by His grace the moment we believe. We trade in our sins and sorrows and are filled up with God’s life and love in Christ Jesus.
I am now alive to God because of what Jesus has done for me. By His grace I am saved.
