“…Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on.”
Being generous with our finances isn’t easy for everyone. Some are tight with money, while others seem to keep it flowing out as gifts and offerings, as well as in. How much should we give? Jesus taught us here that a dollar amount only isn’t how God sees what we do. Jesus notices how we give. It’s important to Him.
The Message Bible says: “The plain truth is that this widow has given by far the largest offering today. All these others made offerings that they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all!”
This widow only had two pennies to her name, but she gave it all. Others may have been able to write checks for thousands and yet, that didn’t prove that they had a giving heart or that they trusted God in it. God’s finance system is figured on percentage. She gave 100%. What percentage did the others give? What percent do you give?
The amount of money isn’t what’s important; God notices the amount of my sacrifice.
