“For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren.”
Jesus purifies people from their sins by the blood He shed on Calvary’s cross. That process of purification is what sanctification is. This verse says that both Jesus and those who are made pure through Him are one. Wow, what a job of purifying He must have done to bring us such an end result as this.
The Message Bible says: “Since the One who saves and those who are saved have a common origin; Jesus doesn’t hesitate to treat them as family.”
God doesn’t set a difference between Jesus, who sanctifies, and us who are sanctified by Him. That doesn’t mean we are equal with Him in all areas. But in this area, when He applies His blood to our life, we are as washed and pure as Jesus Himself.
Sanctification is both instant, the moment we are born again, and progressive from that moment onward. We grow in Jesus through the Word, and are made more Christ-like every day. That’s why Jesus is not ashamed to call us His family.
Jesus has sanctified me, I am now one with Him and He claims me as His own.
