Renewing Your Mind

by | A Verse A Day

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

(Rom. 12:2 NASB)

We received a brand new spirit the day we were born again, but we still have the same old mind. Here we are told what to do with it. We are to renew our mind with the Word of God so it will work right, receiving and generating the thoughts of God.

The Message Bible: “Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

Our minds can resemble an old, beat up chair. A skilled workman needs to strip it down, rub oil in, stain and varnish it. The chair has been renewed. That’s what God does with our minds. He restores our old one and makes it new and effective.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I won’t think like the world, but instead I renew my mind with the Word of God.
