“This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”
Paul is telling Titus to be sure to instruct continually that believers in Jesus Christ need to be doing good deeds for their fellow man. We are saved so we can serve.
We are to be devoting ourselves to good works, acts of kindness, sacrifices of time and energy, and flowing benevolences with our finances to aid others in this life.
The Message Bible says: “You can count on this. I want you to put your foot down. Take a firm stand on these matters so that those who have put their trust in God will concentrate on the essentials that are good for everyone.”
We, who have our faith fixed on God, must be careful to set an example of good actions for the world to see that Jesus is reaching out to them with His love.
For these contributions are not only good in themselves, and useful to mankind, but are real witnesses of our faith in Jesus. Our faith without good works is lifeless.
I am saved to serve. I maintain good deeds to show Jesus’ love to those around me.
