“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.”
Many of us struggle with having confidence in life. Confidence implies steady and stable situations, which don’t happen often in our daily routines. But this verse says that we have confidence in Jesus. He is the only steady, stable, constant factor in our lives and He says we can ask anything according to His will and He hears us.
The Message Bible says: “And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening.”
How do we know what will be in accordance with God’s will? God didn’t expect us to guess or try to figure it out on our own. God’s Word is His will. Just like our word given is our will to do, so God’s Word spoken is His will to perform.
One element makes His Word surer than our word. God isn’t a man and He can’t ever lie about or go back on a spoken promise. He watches over what He says and only speaks things He wills to perform. So we can be confident about that.
I have tremendous confidence in Jesus because His Word is His will for my life.
