Faith Is Our Victory

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”

(1 John 5:4 NASB)

We go to sporting events to cheer our favorite team and hope for their victory. They are victorious only after the contest is concluded and they come out on top. After the victory is won there is great celebrating. In this verse John is telling us of our victory: every child of God defeats the world.

Our faith is what gives us this victory. We know we win, so we can celebrate even before the game is over.

The Message Bible says: “Every God-begotten person conquers the world’s ways. The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith.”

By it’s very definition, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen. Faith always deals with things before we can see them. Faith comes by hearing God’s Word.

John is telling us that we have the victory even before we see the end of the contest because we have heard God and we are assured of the outcome of the contest. When faith comes, it’s all we need to have to win our victory.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I’m in fellowship with Jesus today. I don’t walk in darkness but I walk with Him.
